In the journey of humanity's exploration of the 10,000-meter-deep sea, deep-sea thrusters are undoubtedly the "core power backbone". This "power core" hidden inside deep-sea equipment must not only withstand the extreme environments of high pressure, low temperature and strong corrosion, but also accurately output thrust to support various scientific research missions. The leaping development of domestic deep-sea thrusters cannot be separated from the cross-border empowerment of military technology. It is precisely these technological accumulations from the field of high-end manufacturing that enable it to break through numerous limitations and propel China's deep-sea exploration equipment to sail into the deep blue.
The test of the deep-sea environment on thrusters is extremely severe: for every 10 meters of diving, the seawater pressure increases by 1 atmosphere, and the 1,100 atmospheres of pressure in the 10,000-meter abyss is enough to crush ordinary steel; low temperature will reduce the toughness of materials, highly corrosive seawater will continuously erode components, and complex ocean currents will interfere with the stability of thrust output. To overcome these problems, three core technologies of materials, sealing and power control must achieve breakthroughs. The mature high-strength material technology and high-precision control technology in the military field just provide key technical reference for the research and development of deep-sea thrusters, becoming an important support for breaking through the bottleneck.
Relying on the cross-border empowerment of military technology, domestic deep-sea thrusters have achieved comprehensive breakthroughs in key technologies. At the material level, drawing on high-end military material standards, the thruster shell is made of special titanium alloy, combined with a multi-layer redundant sealing structure and an oil pressure compensation system, successfully achieving zero leakage in the 10,000-meter deep sea and completely solving the high-pressure sealing problem; at the power control level, absorbing the essence of high-precision guidance and control technology, an intelligent coordinated control system has been developed, with thrust adjustment accuracy reaching the millinewton level, enabling centimeter-level hovering and precise steering, allowing deep-sea equipment to perform sophisticated tasks such as sampling and mapping with the precision of threading a needle.
The direct result of technological breakthroughs is the enhancement of the strength of domestic deep-sea equipment. The domestically developed thruster-equipped Haima 4500-meter-class remotely operated underwater vehicle has successfully passed acceptance, operating stably in complex deep-sea terrain and accurately obtaining seabed resource samples; the Jiaolong submersible has greatly extended its continuous operation time through thruster upgrades, bringing back a large number of deep-sea biological and geological samples; the Fendouzhe submersible has even achieved regular 10,000-meter deep diving relying on high-performance domestic thrusters, marking that China's deep-sea thruster technology has ranked among the world's advanced ranks. Behind these achievements is the stable support of thrusters as the "power core".
From technological breakthroughs to equipment implementation, the development track of domestic deep-sea thrusters demonstrates the strong strength of China's high-end manufacturing. Today, this deep-sea "power pioneer" has been widely used in deep-sea scientific research, resource exploration, environmental monitoring and many other fields, becoming a reliable partner for humanity's deep-sea exploration. In the future, with the continuous upgrading of material technology and intelligent control, deep-sea thrusters will develop towards the direction of being smaller, more efficient and longer-lasting. They will continue to propel China's deep-sea exploration equipment, unlock more deep-sea mysteries, and write a new chapter in humanity's dialogue with the ocean.
